BERESFORD George 26 12/10/1911 Coal cutter Parkhouse Whilst driving an electrically driven coal-cutter, deceased's assistant saw one of the props, next to it move. The machine was stopped and a sprag put up to this prop from the foot of another one, but when the machine, was re-started the prop again moved. The machine, was again stopped and then the roof coal fell and killed him.

Deceased had left three wagons on one line so near the points that they fouled the other line. He must have forgotten them, for he afterwards lowered six wagons on the other line controlling them by the front brake. His back was towards the set of three and he was caught between the sides of the two sets as they grazed each other.

The sprags had been taken out 3 hours before, but no attempt was made to get the coal down, and it did not fall, the sprags were replaced. A careful examination might to have shown that blasting was not necessary.
